Philosophy is concerned with the most fundamental questions available to human reason: what can we know and how, what is the nature of reality and mind, what makes actions right or wrong, and how should we reason about contested and uncertain questions? At the University of St Andrews, this four-year, full-time programme familiarises you with the full range of the philosophical tradition, from ancient and medieval thought through early modern and Enlightenment philosophy to the analytic and continental traditions of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. You will engage with historical and contemporary work, developing your capacity to critically assess arguments, identify hidden assumptions, and reason with clarity and precision.
