Philosophy with Placement Experience

Philosophy is the discipline of fundamental questions, training you to think rigorously about ideas that cannot be resolved simply by looking something up. What is knowledge, and how is it justified? What exists, and how can we know?

What makes an action right, and what do we owe to each other? What is the basis of political authority, and what does a just society look like? These are questions that have engaged the greatest minds in human intellectual history and that remain as urgent, contested, and consequential as they have ever been.

At the University of Reading, this four-year full-time programme includes placement experience as a distinctive feature. Philosophy degrees typically focus entirely on the development of analytical and argumentative skills through reading, seminar discussion, and essay writing, and those skills are widely valued in professional life. The placement element connects the academic training of the degree to the professional world, giving you experience of working in an organisation and developing the practical skills and professional awareness that employers look for alongside the philosophical training the degree provides.
