Photography is a discipline that sits at the meeting point of art, technology, and communication. At Edinburgh Napier University, this four-year programme develops both your technical capabilities and your conceptual thinking. You will learn to work confidently with photographic equipment and processes, understanding how different approaches, whether analogue or digital, create different kinds of images and meaning. You will study the history and theory of photography, exploring how images have been used and understood across different contexts and periods, and you will critically engage with contemporary photographic practice.

This full-time programme runs over four years and includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to experience a different educational and cultural setting that can significantly deepen and challenge your creative practice. Graduates in photography go on to careers as professional photographers working in editorial, commercial, documentary, or fine art contexts, as well as in related roles in picture editing, curating, arts administration, education, and the broader creative and media industries.
