About this course

Physics and mathematics together constitute the most fundamental of all intellectual partnerships. Mathematics provides the precise language in which the laws of physics are expressed, while physics gives mathematics some of its most profound and beautiful applications. Studying both together means you develop rigour in both pure reasoning and empirical investigation, and you learn to move fluently between the abstract world of mathematical structure and the physical reality that mathematics describes.

This four-year full-time degree at the University of Liverpool includes a year abroad, which takes you to one of Liverpool's partner universities around the world for a mixture of culture and discipline-related study. The year abroad is a significant intellectual experience, exposing you to different approaches to physics and mathematics and to the experience of studying in another language and cultural environment. You will develop your understanding of classical and quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and mathematical methods, progressing to more advanced and specialised topics as the degree continues.
