About this course

Physics is the foundational science, seeking to understand the universe from its smallest constituents to its largest structures. It asks what matter is made of, how forces act, how time and space relate to one another, and what the laws are that govern every physical process from radioactive decay to the expansion of galaxies. A physics degree develops a distinctive combination of mathematical rigour, experimental skill, and the capacity to reason about the unknown, making physicists among the most versatile graduates in any labour market.

This four-year full-time programme at the University of East Anglia includes a foundation year that prepares you with the mathematical and scientific knowledge needed to study physics at undergraduate level. The foundation year provides a supported transition into degree-level study, giving you the grounding in the relevant knowledge and skills that ensures a smooth progression into the main degree. Once in the programme proper, you will study mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum physics, thermodynamics, optics, and more advanced topics as the degree progresses, alongside practical laboratory work and the mathematical methods that physics demands.
