About this course

Physics is the study of the fundamental laws that govern the material universe, from the behaviour of subatomic particles to the dynamics of galaxies. It develops rigorous mathematical thinking, the capacity to build and test models of physical systems, and the experimental skills to make precise measurements and interpret what they mean. A physics degree trains a form of analytical capability that is rare and genuinely valuable, equipping graduates not just for scientific careers but for any role that requires quantitative reasoning and disciplined problem solving.

At the University of East Anglia, this four-year full-time programme includes a year in industry, giving you the opportunity to work in a professional environment and apply your physics knowledge in a real industrial, research or technology context before you graduate. You will study the core curriculum of physics, including classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics and relativity, as well as more advanced topics as you progress. The year in industry provides a structured professional experience that complements your academic training and builds both practical skills and an understanding of how physicists work outside academia.
