About this course

Artificial intelligence is transforming the practice of physics as much as it is transforming almost every other field, and this degree programme addresses that convergence directly. Physics remains one of the foundational disciplines of science, concerned with understanding the laws that govern matter, energy, space and time, from subatomic particles to the structure of the universe. Artificial intelligence, in the context of science, is not merely a computing tool but a new way of finding patterns in large datasets, constructing predictive models, and accelerating discovery across research domains that range from particle physics to climate science.

You will study across four years of full-time study, building rigorous foundations in classical and modern physics while developing genuine expertise in machine learning, neural networks, data analysis and computational modelling. The programme is designed for students who want to understand both the physics and the underlying mathematical and computational principles that make AI systems work, rather than treating one as a service to the other. The programme includes a foundation year that introduces the core quantitative and scientific skills needed before you progress to the main degree, making it well suited to students who have strong curiosity and potential but whose prior qualifications need development.

Physics with AI graduates are well placed for careers in research, data science, scientific computing, technology development and engineering.
