About this course

Physics with nuclear technology combines a rigorous grounding in the fundamental science of matter and energy with a focused specialisation in the principles and applications of nuclear science. Physics at degree level addresses the behaviour of the universe at every scale, from elementary particles and quantum mechanics to thermodynamics, electromagnetism, optics, and the structure of materials. Nuclear technology applies the principles of nuclear and particle physics to practical contexts: the generation of electrical power, the production of medical isotopes, radiation detection and protection, and the management of nuclear materials.

At Nottingham Trent University, this three-year, full-time programme develops your understanding of core physics alongside the specific knowledge of nuclear physics and reactor technology that the specialism requires. You will study classical and quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and wave physics as the foundation, before engaging with nuclear structure, radioactive decay, fission and fusion reactions, particle detection, and the engineering and safety principles of nuclear power generation.
