Physiotherapy is a health profession dedicated to restoring and maintaining physical function and movement across the lifespan. At Birmingham Newman University this three-year full-time programme leads to a qualification that enables graduates to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a physiotherapist, which is the mandatory credential for practising the profession in the UK. The programme is built around the integration of clinical theory and practice: you will develop knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biomechanics and therapeutic exercise alongside direct experience with patients in clinical placement settings. Registered physiotherapists work in NHS hospitals and community services, sports medicine, private practice, occupational health, care homes and international healthcare settings. Career development leads to specialist clinical roles, advanced practice, teaching and research. Many pursue postgraduate qualifications in specific clinical areas or in physiotherapy education.
