About this course

Physiotherapy is the healthcare discipline concerned with restoring and maintaining movement and physical function in people affected by injury, illness, or disability. Physiotherapists work across a remarkably wide range of clinical settings and patient populations, from musculoskeletal rehabilitation and sports injury to neurological conditions, respiratory care, elderly rehabilitation, and paediatric services. The profession requires both detailed scientific knowledge of the body and the practical clinical skills to apply that knowledge safely and effectively in patient care.

At Brunel University London, this three-year full-time programme trains the next generation of physiotherapists to use scientific knowledge and patient assessment in improving the physical wellbeing of their patients and optimising physical performance. You will study anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and pathology alongside the clinical skills of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention. Clinical placements are an essential part of physiotherapy training, and you will spend significant time in practice settings, developing your competence and confidence under the supervision of experienced practitioners.

The programme takes seriously the complexity of the human body, preparing you to think critically about evidence and to adapt your practice to individual patient needs and circumstances.

Graduates from physiotherapy programmes must register with the Health and Care Professions Council before practising. Career paths include NHS hospital-based physiotherapy in musculoskeletal, respiratory, neurological, and other specialisms, community physiotherapy, private practice, sports physiotherapy, and physiotherapy in schools, prisons, and occupational health settings. Further study at postgraduate level enables specialisation in areas such as sports physiotherapy, musculoskeletal medicine, and neurological rehabilitation.

Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant …

The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” th…
