About this course

Physiotherapy uses physical approaches to promote, maintain, and restore function in people whose movement and wellbeing have been affected by injury, illness, or disability. Physiotherapists assess the physical causes of reduced function and deliver treatment programmes that draw on exercise, manual therapy, education, and other evidence-based interventions. The profession requires both scientific grounding in the systems of the human body and the interpersonal skill to work with people across a wide range of conditions and life stages, from helping someone recover after orthopaedic surgery to supporting a child with a neurological condition or helping an elderly patient manage a long-term respiratory illness.

At Leeds Beckett, this three-year full-time programme is approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and leads to registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. You will develop knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and the biomechanics of movement, alongside the clinical assessment and treatment skills that professional practice requires. Clinical placements are woven throughout the programme, placing you in real healthcare environments where you gain supervised experience working with patients.

A year abroad is incorporated, providing the opportunity to experience physiotherapy practice in a different healthcare context and to develop a broader professional perspective.

Qualified physiotherapists work across NHS hospitals, community health services, private clinics, and specialist rehabilitation settings. The scope of physiotherapy practice is wide, encompassing musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiorespiratory, paediatric, and women's health specialisms, among others. With experience, physiotherapists move into advanced clinical practice, specialist roles, management, education, and research.

The profession is valued and in consistent demand, and Leeds Beckett's CSP-approved programme provides a sound foundation for a rewarding long-term career.
