About this course

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession concerned with helping people to maintain, restore, and maximise movement and physical function across the lifespan. Physiotherapists work with people of all ages and backgrounds, from premature infants to the very elderly, addressing conditions ranging from sports injuries and musculoskeletal pain to neurological conditions, respiratory disease, and post-operative rehabilitation. The profession combines a rigorous scientific understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology with practical clinical skills in assessment, exercise prescription, manual therapy, and patient education, and it is consistently among the healthcare professions in highest demand.

At Coventry University this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing additional preparation for students who need to build their scientific knowledge and study skills before progressing to the main physiotherapy degree. The foundation year ensures you are well placed for the demands of a clinically rigorous professional programme. Across the degree you will study the scientific basis of physiotherapy practice alongside clinical skills development, building competence in assessment, treatment planning, and the delivery of therapeutic interventions.

Substantial clinical placement experience in NHS and other healthcare settings is a central feature of the programme, ensuring you graduate with both academic knowledge and practical clinical ability.

Registered physiotherapists work across a very wide range of settings, including NHS hospitals, community rehabilitation teams, sports clubs and performance centres, occupational health services, private practice, and international healthcare. The profession offers strong employment security and clear progression routes, with opportunities to develop specialist expertise in areas such as musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological rehabilitation, paediatrics, respiratory physiotherapy, and sports medicine. Many physiotherapists also move into advanced practice, research, education, or management roles over the course of their careers.

Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant s…
