About this course

Our Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree equips you with the skills needed to understand complex problems and evaluate available solutions. Learn more. Gain the skills to tackle a range of contemporary real-world problems on this prestigious, interdisciplinary course.

This prestigious degree offers students the opportunity to explore and analyse complex problems from three key disciplinary perspectives. Our Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) course provides the foundations for a range of distinguished careers. The PPE course is for people who want to be problem solvers.

The programme focusses on training students in the diverse skills and tools of the three component disciplines, from policy analysis to data literacy, from cost-benefit analysis to rational argument, from conceptual analysis to social science research methods, and from textual analysis to face-to-face debate. Combined, these tools are more than the sum of their parts, allowing students to understand complex problems, evaluate available solutions and advance their views persuasively through robust argumentation. The PPE degree is based in the Department of International Relations, Politics and History (IRPH) and cross-taught with the Loughborough Business School.

In addition to scholars specialising in political science, political theory and international relations, IRPH includes philosophers with research expertise in areas of philosophy with deep practical and political significance, such as environmental philosophy, feminist philosophy and the ethics of activism.
