Politics is the discipline that examines how societies are organised and governed, how power is acquired and exercised, and what principles should guide political life. It asks both descriptive and normative questions: how does the political world actually function, and how should it function? These questions span the mechanics of electoral systems and government formation, the formation and role of political parties, the study of ideology and political thought, the dynamics of international affairs, and the philosophical questions about justice, equality, and legitimacy that ground everything else.

At Warwick this three-year full-time programme invites you to delve into your political interests and develop the critical thinking skills needed to contribute meaningfully to debates about politics. You can choose a specialism, allowing you to develop depth in the areas that matter most to you, whether that is comparative politics, political theory, international relations, or another thread of the discipline. The programme is built on the understanding that rigorous political analysis requires both empirical knowledge of how institutions and actors behave and theoretical frameworks for evaluating what we observe.

A sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement experience are all built into the programme, providing professional experience, international exposure, and practical skills alongside your academic studies. Graduates pursue careers in government and politics, the civil service, policy research, journalism, international organisations, think tanks, law, public affairs, and education.
