At the University of Edinburgh, this four-year full-time programme develops genuine proficiency in Portuguese alongside a serious engagement with philosophical thought. Your language study will take you from building competence in grammar and spoken communication through to reading literary and non-literary texts in the original, engaging with the extraordinary richness of Brazilian and Lusophone African literatures alongside the European Portuguese tradition. Cultural and historical context is woven through the language curriculum, giving you an understanding of how Portuguese-speaking societies have been shaped by colonialism, migration, and political change.
