Product design is the discipline concerned with conceiving, developing, and bringing to life objects and systems that serve human needs. At Leeds Beckett University, this three-year full-time BA develops your creative, technical, and professional skills across the full product design process. You will work from sketchbook concepts through to full-scale prototypes, engaging with furniture, consumer products, spatial interventions, and sustainable systems. The programme encourages you to think boldly and question convention, developing a distinct design identity while grounding your creativity in rigorous technical understanding.
A sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement are all built into the programme, giving you substantial professional and international experience before you graduate. Product design graduates work across a wide range of sectors, from consumer electronics and furniture through to medical devices, packaging, transportation design, and sustainable products. Roles include product designer, industrial designer, design researcher, user experience designer, and design consultant, in companies ranging from large manufacturers to design agencies and start-ups. The technical and creative breadth of the degree also opens doors in related areas such as design management and innovation consultancy.
