About this course

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behaviour, addressing questions about how we perceive, think, learn, remember, feel and act, both as individuals and in social contexts. The discipline draws on biology, philosophy, social science and experimental methods to produce a rigorous and evidence-based understanding of psychological phenomena across the lifespan. Studying psychology develops your ability to design and evaluate research, to analyse data and to apply scientific knowledge to real human questions, making it one of the most versatile degrees available.

At the University of Dundee, this four-year programme takes you from infancy to old age in your exploration of how the human mind works, covering developmental, social, cognitive, biological and clinical dimensions of psychology. You will develop the research skills fundamental to understanding and practising psychology, including experimental design, statistical analysis and the critical evaluation of evidence. A year abroad gives you the opportunity to study psychology at an international partner institution, broadening your perspective on how the discipline is taught and researched beyond the UK context.

Psychology graduates pursue a wide range of careers. Those wishing to practice as professional psychologists typically pursue postgraduate training in areas such as clinical, counselling, educational, forensic or occupational psychology, which require additional study and supervised practice beyond the undergraduate degree. Many psychology graduates also enter careers in human resources, research, social services, health and wellbeing, marketing, education, the civil service and a wide range of other fields where an understanding of human behaviour is valuable.

The research and analytical skills developed through a psychology degree, including the ability to design studies, analyse data and interpret evidence, are highly transferable across professional contexts.
