Psychology with Business Psychology

Psychology with business psychology brings together the scientific study of mind and behaviour with a specific focus on its application in workplace and organisational contexts. Psychology explores how people think, feel, perceive and behave; business psychology asks how those insights can be applied to improve performance, wellbeing, selection, leadership and organisational effectiveness. The combination is increasingly relevant as organisations recognise that their performance depends as much on the psychological dimensions of how people work as on strategy and resources.

At the University of Kent, this three-year programme is grounded in the scientific understanding of human behaviour, as Kent's own description puts it, and develops the foundations that open doors to careers ranging from clinical and forensic psychology to marketing, public relations and human resources. You will study the core areas of psychology, including cognitive, social, biological and developmental psychology, research methods and statistics, alongside modules focused specifically on the business psychology specialisms: organisational behaviour, leadership, motivation, selection and assessment, wellbeing at work and consumer psychology. The degree develops both the scientific rigour of experimental psychology and the applied understanding of how that rigour translates into professional practice in business and management contexts.

Business psychology graduates are particularly well positioned for roles that sit at the intersection of people and performance, where understanding human behaviour is directly relevant to commercial or organisational outcomes.

Graduates go on to careers in human resources, organisational development, recruitment and selection, people analytics, market research, consumer insights, management consultancy, leadership development and coaching. Those who want to practise as occupational or business psychologists will typically need further postgraduate training. Further study in occupational psychology, business psychology or related disciplines is a common route.
