Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, asking how people think, feel, learn, perceive, and act, and what biological, social, and cultural factors shape those processes. It is a discipline that combines rigorous experimental and statistical methods with a genuine curiosity about human experience in all its variety, and that has applications across health, education, business, criminal justice, and almost every other domain of social life. As a science it is empirical and evidence-based, requiring facility with research design and quantitative analysis alongside theoretical understanding.

At Aberystwyth University, this four-year full-time Psychology degree includes an integrated year studying abroad, giving you the opportunity to engage with psychology from a different national and academic perspective and to develop the independence and adaptability that international experience builds. The degree is accredited by the British Psychological Society, which is the standard qualification for those who wish to pursue a career as a professional psychologist in the UK. You will develop conceptual and theoretical knowledge across core areas of the discipline, from biological and cognitive psychology to developmental, social, and clinical psychology, alongside the research and analytical skills needed to apply that knowledge to real-world problems.

BPS accreditation means that graduates of this degree have the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, which is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist in a recognised field such as clinical, educational, forensic, health, occupational, or counselling psychology.
