Psychology with Philosophy

Psychology with philosophy is a degree that explores the scientific and conceptual dimensions of what it means to have a mind. Psychology is a rigorous empirical science, using observation and experiment to understand how people think, feel, perceive, and behave. Philosophy provides the complementary analytical and conceptual tools, asking what the nature of mind and consciousness actually is, what knowledge is and how we can have it, how we should reason logically, and what ethical frameworks can guide human action.

The two disciplines are deeply intertwined: many of the most important questions in cognitive science, neuroscience, and clinical psychology turn out to have irreducibly philosophical dimensions.

At Keele University, this three-year full-time programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society, providing the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership that is the first step for those wishing to pursue professional psychological training. You will engage with the full range of psychological topics, from perception, learning, and memory to social psychology, personality, and mental health, alongside philosophy modules that develop your capacity for conceptual analysis, logical reasoning, and ethical reflection. A sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities are all built into the programme, giving you substantial professional and international experience.
