Quantity Surveying

Quantity surveying is the profession responsible for managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects from inception to completion. Quantity surveyors work with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure that construction projects are procured and delivered efficiently, that costs are properly planned and controlled, and that the contractual arrangements between parties are fair and clearly defined. At the University of Brighton, this three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year with work placement opportunities, giving you extended professional experience in the construction industry before your final year. Brighton's built environment provision has strong industry connections, particularly in the Sussex and London construction markets, and the programme is designed with professional practice in mind. You will study measurement and cost management, construction technology, procurement and contract administration, project management, economics of the built environment, and the legal and regulatory context in which quantity surveyors operate, developing both technical competence and the commercial judgement that employers value.

Graduates of quantity surveying programmes are eligible to pursue membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which remains the standard professional qualification in the field.
