About this course

Robotics and artificial intelligence represent one of the most consequential intersections in modern technology. Robotics deals with the design, construction and control of physical systems that sense and act in the world, while artificial intelligence provides the computational methods that allow machines to learn from data, reason about their environment and make decisions. Together they underpin advances in manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, exploration and countless other domains, and the professionals who can work across both fields are among the most sought-after in the technology sector.

At Edge Hill University you will study the core principles of both disciplines across three years of full-time study. You will explore machine learning, computer vision, autonomous systems, control engineering, programming and the mathematical foundations that underlie intelligent behaviour in machines. The programme includes a sandwich year in professional practice and a year abroad, meaning you can gain extended industry experience alongside your academic studies and develop an international perspective on technology development.

Your placement year will give you real engineering or software development experience, making you substantially more employment-ready at graduation.

Robotics and AI graduates go on to work in a wide range of technical roles, including software engineering, machine learning engineering, robotics development, autonomous systems design and AI research. Industries including automotive, aerospace, healthcare technology, logistics, defence and consumer electronics all employ graduates with these skills. The discipline also opens paths into postgraduate research, where AI and robotics remain active and well-funded areas of inquiry.
