About this course

Robotics engineering is the discipline concerned with designing, building, and programming physical machines that can sense, reason, and act in the world. Robots are increasingly central to manufacturing, logistics, surgery, exploration, and everyday life, and the engineers who design them must combine expertise in mechanics, electronics, control systems, computer science, and artificial intelligence to create systems that are effective, safe, and reliable. Robotics engineering is one of the most technically demanding and intellectually exciting fields in engineering, sitting at the convergence of multiple disciplines.

At the University of Bath, this three-year full-time programme provides a rigorous engineering education with a focus on robotic systems. Bath is consistently ranked among the UK's top engineering universities, with a strong research culture in robotics, autonomous systems, and human-machine interaction. You will study the mathematical foundations of robotics including kinematics, dynamics, and control theory, electronic and electromechanical systems, sensors and actuators, computer vision, machine learning for robotics, and software engineering for real-time systems.

The programme is designed to develop both the theoretical understanding and the practical design and implementation skills needed to work as a robotics engineer in industry or research. Bath's strong employer relationships and its culture of applied engineering education give graduates an advantage in the graduate jobs market.

Graduates from Robotics Engineering at Bath go on to careers in manufacturing automation, aerospace and defence, medical robotics, autonomous vehicles, consumer electronics, research institutions, and technology start-ups. The combination of mechanical, electronic, and software engineering skills is highly sought after in a sector that is growing rapidly and transforming industries across the economy. Many pursue professional engineering qualifications with the Institution of Engineering and Technology or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Some go on to postgraduate study in robotics, autonomous systems, control engineering, or artificial intelligence.
