Sociology

Sociology is the scientific study of society: the structures, institutions, and processes through which human beings organise their collective life, and the forces that produce inequality, solidarity, conflict, and change. It asks why some people have more power and resources than others, how gender, race, class, and age shape life chances, how social institutions such as the family, the school, and the state reproduce themselves over time, and what happens when those institutions are challenged or transformed. Sociology is at once a theoretical discipline, developing conceptual tools for understanding social life, and an empirical one, using qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate how societies actually work.

At the University of Bradford, this programme includes a foundation year, giving you a thorough introduction to the methods of social science and the key questions of sociology before moving into the full degree.
