About this course

Software engineering with electronics is a degree that spans two of the most commercially important technical disciplines of our time. Software engineering provides the tools and methodologies for building complex software systems reliably, at scale, and in ways that can be maintained and evolved. Electronics provides the hardware foundation on which software runs, covering circuit design, embedded systems, signal processing, and the physical devices that connect the digital world to the real one.

Graduates who understand both layers of a system are genuinely valuable in an industry increasingly built on the integration of hardware and software.

At the University of Westminster, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, which prepares students for advanced degree-level study in technical subjects and makes the pathway accessible to those who need additional preparation before the main programme begins. The full degree covers software engineering principles alongside electronic systems, developing fluency in programming, software architecture, testing, digital electronics, microprocessors, and embedded systems. A sandwich year placement gives you the opportunity to spend a year working in an engineering or technology organisation, gaining professional experience before your final year.
