Spanish and economics is a combination that prepares you for a genuinely globalised professional world. Spanish is spoken by around 500 million people across more than twenty countries, encompassing one of the world's largest and most diverse linguistic communities. Latin America, together with Spain, represents a significant share of global economic activity, and graduates who can engage with that world in Spanish and think rigorously about its economic structures and dynamics are in a distinctive position.

At the University of Glasgow, staff cover a wide range of topics in Spanish studies and you will have the opportunity to work with native speakers from different parts of the Spanish-speaking world. The programme runs for five years full time, which reflects the dual demands of reaching high-level Spanish proficiency alongside a rigorous economics education. It includes a sandwich year and a work placement, providing direct professional experience in either a Spanish-speaking environment or an economics or business context.
