About this course

Sport and exercise science is the systematic study of the human body in the context of physical activity and sport, drawing on physiology, psychology, and biomechanics to understand, measure, and enhance performance and health. The discipline is relevant both to elite sport, where the science of performance can be decisive, and to the broader challenge of promoting physical activity and health across diverse populations, from rehabilitation settings to public health programmes.

This three-year full-time degree at Swansea University provides you with a solid foundation in understanding, measuring, and enhancing human performance and health across diverse contexts. You will study how the cardiovascular and muscular systems respond to training, how psychological factors influence motivation and performance, and how movement can be analysed and improved through biomechanical methods. You will develop laboratory and fieldwork skills, statistical and data analysis competencies, and the ability to design and critically evaluate research.

Swansea's programme spans both elite sport and clinical and public health applications, giving you a versatile training that prepares you for roles across the full breadth of the discipline.

Graduates go on to careers in performance analysis, strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, sports coaching, physical education, rehabilitation, public health, and fitness industries. Some go on to further training and careers in physiotherapy, sport psychology, or clinical exercise physiology with additional qualifications. Research roles in sport science institutions and universities are available for those who pursue postgraduate study.

Swansea's location in Wales, with its strong tradition in sport and its active outdoor culture, provides a distinctive context for the degree, and the university's research facilities support a genuinely science-based approach to the subject.

Genuinely worthwhile
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” local cost of living is manageable…

Would do it again
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” good transport links make it…
