Sport And Exercise Science
Sport and Exercise Science applies scientific principles to understanding human physical performance and the role of exercise in promoting health and wellbeing. It is genuinely multidisciplinary, drawing on physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, psychology, nutrition, and strength and conditioning to examine how the body responds to exercise, what limits performance, and how training programmes can be designed to achieve specific outcomes. The discipline is relevant both to elite sport, where marginal gains matter enormously, and to public health, where physical activity is one of the most powerful tools available for preventing and managing chronic disease.
At the University of Lincoln, this three-year, full-time programme includes a sandwich year and a year abroad, as well as work placement opportunities. You will study across all the key discipline areas, developing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills through laboratory work, fieldwork, and applied projects. You will explore how the body adapts to training, how movement is analysed and optimised, how psychological factors affect performance and participation, and how nutrition supports recovery and adaptation.

Graduates of Sport and Exercise Science work in performance analysis, strength and conditioning, sports coaching and development, exercise physiology, and health promotion. Many move into roles in professional sport organisations, sports institutes, fitness and wellness companies, and public health services. Others pursue postgraduate study in sport science, physiotherapy, sports coaching, or strength and conditioning, building specialist expertise for research or senior professional roles.
