About this course

Sport management applies the principles of business and organisational leadership to one of the world's largest and most culturally significant industries. Sport generates billions of pounds annually through ticket sales, broadcasting rights, sponsorship, merchandise, events and facilities, and it requires professionals who understand both the commercial logic of the industry and its distinctive values and culture. Sport managers work in professional clubs, national governing bodies, event organisations, facility management, sport marketing, media, and community sport development, and the breadth of the sector means that career opportunities are genuinely diverse.

At Loughborough University, this three-year full-time degree benefits from one of the UK's most respected sport institutions. Loughborough's reputation in sport science, sport management and elite athlete development gives the degree a distinctive character: you will be studying in an environment where sport is taken seriously at every level, from elite performance to grassroots participation. You will develop your understanding of management strategy, finance, marketing, human resources and organisational behaviour alongside the specific economics, governance, media and sponsorship dimensions of sport as an industry.

The ability to combine commercial acumen with a genuine understanding of sport culture is what distinguishes the most effective sport managers, and the programme develops both.

You will develop strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, and you will engage with real-world case studies and industry challenges that give your learning practical relevance. Loughborough's industry connections provide access to professionals and organisations that enrich the learning experience.

Graduates from Loughborough's sport management programme move into roles in professional and elite sport, national governing bodies, event management, sport marketing and media, facility management, community sport, and international sports organisations. The combination of Loughborough's reputation and the programme's commercial and management rigour makes graduates attractive to a wide range of employers in and beyond sport. Postgraduate study in sport management, business or MBA programmes is also a natural pathway.

Genuinely worthwhile
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the consulting projects with real companies genuinely prepare you for the working world. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the c…

Highly recommend
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the ci…
