About this course

Sports rehabilitation is a specialist allied health discipline focused on the assessment, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal injuries in athletic and physically active populations. It draws on anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and clinical reasoning to develop practitioners who can identify the nature and cause of an injury, design and deliver evidence-based rehabilitation programmes, and support athletes in returning safely to their sport or activity. The field operates at the boundary between sport science, physiotherapy, and strength and conditioning, and practitioners work across elite sport, community sport, fitness, and healthcare settings.

At London South Bank University, this three-year full-time Sports Rehabilitation degree includes a foundation year, providing a supported entry route for students who need additional scientific preparation before entering the main programme. You will develop clinical skills in injury assessment, manual therapy, exercise prescription, and pitch-side rehabilitation, building towards the level of competence required for professional practice. The programme includes industry-relevant professional qualifications in pitch-side rehabilitation and strength and conditioning, giving you additional credentials alongside your degree.

Graduates from sports rehabilitation programmes work across a range of settings. Roles as sports rehabilitation therapists, clinical rehabilitation specialists, strength and conditioning practitioners, and personal trainers in elite sport, professional sports clubs, community settings, leisure and fitness facilities, and the armed forces are all common destinations. The profession is growing in recognition and scope, and many graduates go on to work in the NHS or private clinical practice.
