Strength and Conditioning

Strength and conditioning is the applied science of developing athletic physical qualities, using structured exercise programming to improve an athlete's or exerciser's power, speed, strength, endurance, agility and resilience to injury. It draws on exercise physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology and coaching science, translating scientific knowledge into practical training interventions that support performance and wellbeing. You will study the physiological and biomechanical principles that underpin physical training, the design and periodisation of training programmes, the assessment and monitoring of athlete performance, injury prevention and the practical skills of coaching technique and cueing.
