About this course

Therapeutic radiography is a healthcare profession at the forefront of cancer treatment, applying ionising radiation to treat malignant tumours with precision and in ways that minimise harm to surrounding healthy tissue. Therapeutic radiographers work as part of the oncology multidisciplinary team, planning and delivering radiation therapy, supporting patients through treatment, and monitoring their response. The profession requires both deep technical knowledge of radiation physics and clinical systems, and the personal qualities to provide compassionate care to patients who are often going through the most difficult period of their lives.

At Birmingham City University, this four-year full-time degree includes a foundation year designed to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to progress to degree-level study in allied health professions. The foundation year covers a broad range of subjects to prepare you for the scientific and clinical demands of the degree, developing practical and analytical skills alongside the academic habits that higher education requires. The main degree leads to eligibility to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a therapeutic radiographer.
