Zoology With Conservation

Zoology with conservation is a degree that combines the scientific study of animals and their diversity with a focused engagement with one of the most urgent challenges of our time: the crisis of biodiversity loss and the extinction of species at a rate that has not been seen since the end of the dinosaurs. Zoology examines the physiology, behaviour, ecology, and evolution of animals across the full range of life on Earth. At Bangor University, this three-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year and benefits from the university's location in north Wales, one of the UK's most ecologically diverse regions, with access to mountains, coastline, and the Menai Strait. You will develop knowledge of animal biology, ecology, and evolutionary science alongside conservation genetics, wildlife management, biodiversity policy, and the practical tools of conservation fieldwork. A sandwich year, year abroad option, and work placement opportunities are all available, giving you professional experience in conservation organisations, research projects, or wildlife management settings and broadening your engagement with conservation challenges in different national contexts.

Graduates go on to careers in conservation organisations, wildlife trusts, national parks, government environmental agencies, ecological consultancies, zoos and aquaria, research institutions, and international conservation bodies. Many pursue postgraduate study in conservation biology, ecology, or wildlife management, developing specialist expertise in areas such as endangered species management, marine conservation, or landscape ecology.
