Musical Theatre
Musical theatre combines the disciplines of acting, singing, and dance into a single performance form that has its own distinct aesthetic and technical demands. It is a genre with a rich history, from the early twentieth-century American musical to contemporary West End and Broadway productions, and its practitioners need to excel across all three performance strands while also developing the professional awareness and resilience that a career in this competitive industry requires. A professional performance degree in musical theatre is a rigorous vocational training designed to produce graduates who are ready for professional work.
The BA (Hons) Musical Theatre (Professional Performance) is validated by the University of Chichester and delivered by Associated Studios. The programme is structured as an accelerated degree, meaning you can complete the qualification in two years of intensive training, with approximately 34 contact hours per week across 30 teaching weeks per year. This high contact time reflects the intensity of professional performance training, where technical skill and artistic development require sustained daily practice rather than the lighter contact model of a conventional degree.
The cohort size of up to 26 students ensures a focused and closely supported training environment. Students who wish to extend their training can progress to a further MA programme.
You will develop technique and artistry across singing, acting, and dance, alongside the audition skills, professional awareness, and performance confidence that a working career in musical theatre demands.
Graduates pursue careers as performers in West End, regional theatre, touring productions, cruise ship entertainment, and the broad range of performing contexts that musical theatre encompasses. Many also move into related roles in choreography, direction, teaching, vocal coaching, and arts education. The combination of three performance disciplines also supports transfer into broader areas of the entertainment industry.
