About this course

Business administration is a generalist management degree designed to develop broadly capable leaders and managers who can think strategically, work across organisational functions, and apply sound business principles in complex and changing environments. It encompasses the core disciplines of management: strategy, finance, marketing, human resources, operations, and the ethical and professional dimensions of organisational life. A BBA is particularly well suited to students who want a practical, career-driven education that prepares them for management roles across a wide range of industries and geographies.

At Heriot-Watt University this four-year programme is explicitly designed to be globally relevant and broadly accessible, offering a professionally oriented and flexible curriculum that prepares you for careers in an internationally connected business world. You will study all the core management disciplines alongside the opportunity to specialise in areas relevant to your interests and career direction. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at one of Heriot-Watt's international campuses or partner institutions, building the cross-cultural and international business understanding that the programme's global orientation emphasises.

Business administration graduates work across virtually every sector of the economy in management, commercial, and operational roles. Banking, financial services, consulting, retail, logistics, healthcare, technology, and the public sector all employ BBA graduates. The broad management foundation the degree provides is well suited to graduate management programmes and to careers that will evolve significantly over time.

Some graduates go on to postgraduate study in a specialist management discipline such as finance, marketing, or supply chain management, while others pursue professional qualifications in accounting, human resources, or project management.

Exceeded expectations
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” the city is a brillian…

Would do it again
The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” local cost of living…
