Film Practice

Film Practice is a degree for people who want to make films, not just think about them. It is built around the belief that cinema is a craft as well as an art form, and that understanding it means working with cameras, sound equipment, editing tools and the collaborative dynamics of a production team. At the same time, serious filmmaking requires genuine critical awareness: knowing your tradition, understanding how films create meaning, and being able to articulate and defend your creative choices.

At the London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts London, the three-year full-time degree develops your practical filmmaking skills across directing, cinematography, editing, sound design and production. You will work on productions throughout the course, building a portfolio of work and developing the professional habits that the screen industries demand. The programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, giving you the opportunity to spend time working in film or television production before you graduate.
