THE DOOR: ENTRY DIFFICULTY TODAY, graded A (easy) to E (extremely hard). A Careermash rule-of-thumb index built from our AI exposure index and the job's moat class. It is not a forecast and not a count of job openings.

AI EXPOSURE TODAY is a Careermash index from 0 to 100 of how exposed this job's everyday tasks are to AI today. We estimate it by matching published research on how people use AI to this job, usually by keyword or subject area, and we lower it where the work is protected (for example by physical, personal or legal requirements). It is not a direct measurement of how much people in this job use AI.

This job holds up well against AI
AI exposure today is modest on our index (30), and the law requires human oversight. That human could be you. That is about as safe as careers get right now, though it is still worth learning to use the tools well.

The role

As an HR/recruitment consultancy director, you run a team of people whose job is to find workers for businesses. You help companies figure out what kind of employees they need, then you hunt for those people, interview them, and help them get hired. You need good leadership skills to run a strong team and the ability to understand what different businesses actually need.

Your work mixes talking to businesses about their hiring problems, staying on top of what kinds of jobs and workers are trending, managing your team of recruiters, and making sure your business is profitable. You work with senior people at companies, learn about their goals and struggles, and use that knowledge to find the right candidates. You are part matchmaker, part businessperson, and part detective.

Daily responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic recruitment plans aligned with client needs and market trends.
  • Lead and mentor a team of recruitment consultants, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their business challenges and talent requirements.
  • Conduct market research to identify industry trends, competitor analysis, and potential new business opportunities.
  • Oversee the full recruitment lifecycle for senior-level positions, including sourcing, interviewing, and negotiating offers.
  • Utilize data analytics to track recruitment metrics and improve processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Facilitate training sessions for clients on best practices in talent acquisition and employee engagement.
  • Represent the consultancy at industry events and networking opportunities, enhancing the firm's reputation and visibility.
