AI EXPOSURE TODAY is a Careermash index from 0 to 100 of how exposed this job's everyday tasks are to AI today. We estimate it by matching published research on how people use AI to this job, usually by keyword or subject area, and we lower it where the work is protected (for example by physical, personal or legal requirements). It is not a direct measurement of how much people in this job use AI.

AI exposure is low for this work today
AI exposure today for this job is low on our index (10), an estimate rather than a measurement. We have not yet classified what, if anything, structurally protects it, so we make no claim either way about a moat. Learn the tools, and build the judgement that stays human.

The role

Working as an Undertaker, Mortuary, and Crematorium Assistant means caring for people at a sad time in their lives. You treat the body with respect and dignity, prepare it for the funeral or cremation, and help families through the arrangements and ceremony. This job needs someone calm, respectful, and good at noticing what families need.

Your daily tasks include washing and preparing the body, keeping the mortuary clean and organized, managing paperwork like death certificates, operating the cremation equipment safely, and transporting the body. You will answer families' questions, help during viewings and funerals, and sometimes arrange how the body gets to the funeral. You work closely with funeral directors and treat everyone - the person who has died and their family - with quiet respect.

Daily responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of the deceased for viewing and funeral services.
  • Support families during visitations and funerals, offering empathy and guidance.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the mortuary and crematorium facilities.
  • Coordinate with funeral directors and other staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Manage paperwork and documentation related to the deceased and their families.
  • Operate and maintain cremation equipment and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Prepare transport arrangements for the deceased, ensuring timely and respectful handling.
