Sport and exercise science applies the methods of biology, physiology, psychology and biomechanics to understanding human performance and the role of physical activity in health. It is a discipline that spans the full range of human movement, from the elite athlete training for international competition to the sedentary adult taking their first steps towards a more active life. The science that underpins both is the same: how the body responds to exercise, how the mind affects performance, how movement can be analysed and how training can be designed to produce specific adaptations.
