Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Bedroom and Kitchen Fitter
In this entry-level role, you will assist experienced fitters with installations and learn the fundamentals of the trade. You will gain hands-on experience and develop your skills in measuring, cutting, and assembling furniture.
Mid-Level Bedroom and Kitchen Fitter
At this stage, you will take on more complex projects and work independently. You will be responsible for managing your own installations, ensuring quality workmanship, and maintaining client relationships.
Senior Bedroom and Kitchen Fitter
As a senior fitter, you will oversee projects, mentor junior staff, and liaise with clients to ensure their vision is realised. You will also be involved in business development and may take on managerial responsibilities.
