Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Design Consultant
In this entry-level role, you will assist senior designers in developing concepts and executing design projects. You will gain hands-on experience in various design tools and methodologies, while also learning about client engagement and project management.
Mid-Level Design Consultant
At this stage, you will take on more responsibility, managing smaller projects and leading design teams. You will be expected to contribute to client presentations and refine your skills in project management and strategic thinking.
Senior Design Consultancy Director
As a Senior Director, you will be responsible for the overall vision and direction of the consultancy. You will lead large teams, manage high-profile clients, and drive the strategic growth of the business, ensuring that the consultancy remains at the cutting edge of design innovation.
