Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Forensic Nurse
In an entry-level role, junior forensic nurses assist in patient assessments and evidence collection under the supervision of experienced nurses. They gain practical experience in clinical settings and begin to understand the intersection of healthcare and law.
Mid-level Forensic Nurse
Mid-level forensic nurses take on more responsibility, conducting independent assessments and managing cases. They are expected to have a solid understanding of legal protocols and may begin to mentor junior staff.
Senior Forensic Nurse/Forensic Nurse Consultant
At the peak of their career, senior forensic nurses lead teams, develop protocols, and may engage in policy-making. They are recognised as experts in their field and often provide training and guidance to other healthcare professionals.
