Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Literary Editor

Mid-Level Literary Editor
You will take on more responsibility, managing your own projects and working directly with authors to refine their manuscripts.

In this senior role, you will oversee editorial teams, shape publishing strategies, and mentor junior editors while driving the vision for new literary projects.
