Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant
In this entry-level position, you will support qualified therapists by assisting with basic tasks and learning the fundamentals of speech and language therapy.
Mid-Level Speech and Language Therapy Assistant
At this stage, you will take on more responsibilities, including implementing therapy plans and working more independently with clients.
Senior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant
In a senior role, you will lead therapy sessions, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the development of therapy programmes.
