Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Tyre and Exhaust Fitter
In this entry-level role, you will assist experienced fitters and learn the basics of tyre, exhaust, and windscreen fitting. You will gain hands-on experience and develop your skills in a supportive environment.
Mid-Level Fitter
As a mid-level fitter, you will take on more complex tasks and work independently. You will be responsible for diagnosing issues and providing solutions, as well as mentoring junior staff.
Senior Fitter or Workshop Supervisor
In a senior role, you will oversee workshop operations, manage staff, and ensure compliance with safety standards. You will also be involved in training new employees and implementing best practices.
