About this course
Childhood studies is a vibrant and exciting field which has expanded in recent years to include knowledge from psychology, sociology and psychoanalysis. This four-year BA Childhood Studies (including Foundation Year) is designed for students who do not yet meet entry requirements for a three-year degree but want to progress into higher education in social sciences, education, or related fields. Youβll begin with a Foundation Year (Year Zero) before progressing into three further years of specialist study in Childhood Studies, building the knowledge and academic skills needed for careers working with children, young people, and families. This interdisciplinary degree explores the social and emotional worlds of children from birth to 25, helping you understand childhood development, behaviour, identity, and wellbeing across different contexts. Youβll study how children grow and learn in a rapidly changing world shaped by digital media, cultural diversity, inequality, and social pressures, while exploring why some children thrive in adversity and others face challenges.
