BSc Psychology, Counselling and Coaching
About this course
Psychology, counselling, and coaching together address some of the most important questions about how people function, struggle, and grow. Psychology provides the scientific framework for understanding human thought, emotion, and behaviour. Counselling applies psychological insight to the therapeutic relationship, helping people work through difficulties and develop greater self-understanding. Coaching draws on similar foundations but focuses on enabling people to identify and achieve their goals, often in professional or personal development contexts. Bringing these three disciplines into one programme creates a broad and integrated perspective on human wellbeing and potential. At the University of Bedfordshire, this part-time degree is suited to students who are balancing study with other commitments, and it draws on curriculum development carried out in consultation with practitioners from the NHS, mental health support services, and other relevant organisations. You will study psychological theory and research alongside models and skills drawn from counselling and coaching practice, developing both the theoretical understanding and the practical communication and relationship skills that working in these fields demands. You will engage with ethics, professional boundaries, and the responsibilities that come with supporting people in vulnerable or development-focused situations. The part-time structure makes this degree particularly accessible to students who come with some existing life or work experience relevant to the field, and that experience can enrich your engagement with the course material. Graduates from programmes that combine psychology, counselling, and coaching find roles in employee assistance programmes, human resources, education, healthcare support, community organisations, and private practice. Many go on to postgraduate training in counselling, coaching psychology, or related clinical fields. The combination of psychological knowledge and interpersonal skills is also valuable in leadership, organisational development, and social care.
