About this course

Biomedical science is the scientific discipline that provides the evidence base for modern medicine. It applies the methods and knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physiology to understand how the human body functions in health and how it fails in disease, and it encompasses the laboratory sciences that underpin clinical diagnosis, from haematology and microbiology to clinical biochemistry and immunology. Biomedical scientists are essential members of the healthcare workforce, providing the analytical results on which clinical decisions depend, and the research they conduct drives progress in our understanding and treatment of disease. At Abertay University, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study biomedical science in an international context and develop a global perspective on how healthcare science is practised and developed.
