Mechanical Engineering is the broadest of the engineering disciplines, concerned with anything that moves, produces force, transforms energy, or involves the physical properties of materials. Aircraft engines, wind turbines, manufacturing robots, medical implants, and the structural components of buildings all fall within its scope. Mechanical engineers apply the principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and materials science to design, analyse, and improve physical systems, combining mathematical rigour with practical creativity and judgement. At Edinburgh Napier University, this five-year full-time programme provides an extended and thorough education in mechanical engineering, with a year abroad built into the structure.
