The role
As a door supervisor, you are responsible for keeping a venue safe and secure. Nightclubs, bars, events and other busy places need someone at the door who can spot problems early and handle them calmly. You check ID cards, watch the crowd, break up arguments before they turn into fights, and handle it all while being polite and fair.
The job is about being switched on and talking to people. You learn to read situations quickly - noticing when someone has had too much to drink, or when two people are about to clash. You may search bags, manage the queue, or work with other security staff to sort out problems. It's a job where you need to stay calm under pressure, sometimes deal with drunk or angry people, and keep your energy up through late nights. But it's also one where you can make a real difference by keeping people safe so they can enjoy themselves.
Daily responsibilities
- Check identification and verify the age of patrons entering the venue.
- Monitor crowd behaviour and intervene in disputes or altercations.
- Conduct searches of individuals and bags for prohibited items.
- Ensure compliance with licensing laws and health and safety regulations.
- Liaise with venue management and emergency services as needed.
